A record of Integrity and Transforming the Delivery of Healthcare
Founded in 1979, UHS is one of the most respected hospital management companies in the nation. For nearly 40 years, UHS has focused on meeting the healthcare needs of our patients in all of the communities we serve. Throughout our history, our facilities have provided quality care to tens of millions of patients, many of whom recommend our facilities to their family and friends.
UHS operates more than 320 acute care, behavioral health hospitals and outpatient treatment facilities in the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. In 2016, our 77,000 dedicated and talented staff treated more than 2.5 million people with dignity and respect.
We recognize that the patients we serve come to us at some of the most vulnerable times in their life, and we strive every day to help them meet their healthcare and behavioral care challenges.
Our focus is putting patients first. We take pride in our consistently strong patient satisfaction scores, including that 92% of patients reported feeling better after receiving care at our facilities in 2016.
We have very high standards for quality. Over the past four years, 83 UHS facilities been recognized by The Joint Commission (TJC) as Top Performers on Key Quality Measures®. TJC is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies over 20,000 healthcare organizations and programs annually on behalf of the federal government. TJC recognized Top Performers that “attain excellence on accountability measure performance” as a result of evidence-based clinical processes.
We are dedicated to the communities where our patients live and work, and we are active in raising awareness of critical healthcare issues. Fortune Magazine consistently ranks UHS among its “Worlds’ Most Admired Companies.” Among our peer group we are ranked #1 (2015) and #2 (2016) with regard to social responsibility. UHS is a company that has been successful because we are motivated by the patients and communities that we serve.
We continuously invest in our facilities, programs, services and employees so that we can continue to provide high quality care. Over the past three years, we have invested more than $1 billion in our facilities to broaden our operational and clinical capabilities.
